Why is my Sure Signal constantly flashing its lights (doing a software update)?

The flashing of the lights is to indicate that a download is in progress, the lights should flash in the order of Lights 1,3 (Power and @)  then Lights 1,2,3 (Power, @ and Mobile). This process can take anywhere from a few minutes up to two hours and is largely dependant on connection speed.

What’s happening behind the scenes

The Sure Signal will then begin negotiation with the provisioning server, and lights 1,3 and 1,2,3 will flash to indicate that the software is being downloaded, a tunnel is established to 212.183.133.178

I have had a “notsosuresignal” box now for nearly a year.

I left Orange when I moved house and could no longer get coverage and went back (doh!) to Vodafone on the promise that if I could not get a full signal in my house I could purchase the all singing all dancing full 3G applying £50 piece of crap.

It took over 2 months to get the thing to work. Tried port forwarding etc. In the end I took it round to the in-laws, plugged it into their router and it started working within minutes.

About 3 weeks ago my wife finnaly gave in on her provider (T-mobile) and joined me at Vodafone so she could share the Sure Signal. Could we get her phone to connect…could we heck. In the space of 2 weeks, we had a new sim card and a new phone (that was a polava) and it still didn’t work. Eventually I took the box back to the inlaws and once again, it worked.

This week, sometime between 2100 Monday and 0330 Tuesday, the box stopped working. I have tried everything bar taking the box to the inlaws. Vodafone are no help (their systems are being updated today 18/2/11). I have since opened ports again, reassigned a static IP, and now the box is going mental. Light 1 flashes once, then lights 2 and 3 flash once, then lights 1 and 2 flash once, then light 3 flashes once and it starts over again. Now that has stopped and lights 1 and 2 are just on constantly.

Can anyone tell me why VF decided to unleash this junk on the world?

I have had the same problem today after a couple of years of fairly good service.

Have moved to a BT Broadband 3 hub, but configured it (20 years as tech) just like its predecessor

I have opened ports, disabled the firewall, even added the gateway into the DMZ, but its not happy. i thought it might be the Vodafone NTP server, but I can ping this too.

No amount of telephony support could fix it and the device is now being swapped out by vodafone.

Is there a definitive guide of flashing light combinations?

When it worked it was great, only just got mine, it worked for about 2 weeks then went pear shaped and will no longer connect, cant get past light 2 flashing. like the previous post I have opened up ports on my router – still no joy.

I dont think I have ever come across anything as bad as this piece of crap. It is the worse piece of tech I have bought ever. I am a technically minded guy I know what im doing but this is just so bad that it defeats me. I feel sorry for the people put there who have bought it that are the type of people who need help opening Wor.
I have got the same problems as you the device seems to work for a day or so then it just stops for no reason. I then play around with it to resuscitate it again then it dies and I finally give up.
I am usually just got the power light on solid and nothing else sometimes the @ light might come on but its just rubbish there is no point in it anymore.
Vodafone need to delete their forum and invest the money into the tech that goes into this hunk of junk.
    I give up!!!
If anyone knows anything that I can do to get this working please please let me know.

I had good service for ages using PlusNet, then one day only the power led was lit (constant). I could see the device on my router – it had a local IP address. Moved it to another BB router (on Tiscali) and it worked fine. Needless to say, both Vodafone and PlusNet support pointed at each other. Then, after a few days and after forcing it onto another IP address on another port of my (PlusNet) router, it suddenly started working. No clue why.

A few weeks on and again, just powe led on constant. However, this time, no sign of it on my router. So, did the factory reset and it went through the same set of lights as Stuart saw in Feb – 1, then 2&3, then 1&2, then 3 etc. After a bit, power led stayed on, and now the internet led is slow flashing – trying to get an internet connection. Still waiting …

Essentially I think the Sure Signal is a reasonable product but *severely* let down by lack of decent diagnostics or the ability to manage locally, say via its own internal web server (unlike my routers and Lacie LAN disk). Without this, it is impossible to tell what is going on whenever it stops working. Annoying!

    Guys, what you talking about?
I have two contracts with Vodafone and so was allowed a Sure signal free. I have to say that this thing works a treat. I have used this in several locations and just update the postcode when I move it. I have currently installed it in a house and been using it here for a couple of months with no problems. I have done a reset a couple of times over the last 18 months but give it about half an hour and it’s up to date again. OK so may be this kind of comment is not in the spirit of the site but I think it’s a great little tool. More companies should make them avaliable.
